ALL STAR GAME - another low scoring affair. George Springer led off for the NL and got hit by an Alek Manoah pitch. Luis Arraez singled, sending Springer to second. Yandy Diaz followed with a single to score Springer. After Yordan Alvarez flew out to center, Manoah drilled Carlos Correa to load the bases. Oscar Gonzalez struck out, but Jose Rojas drew a walk to force in Arraez and put the NL up 2-0. Travis D’Arnaud flew out to end the inning.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Jose Abreu hit a one out single. Josh Naylor singled with Abreau stopping at second. After Adley Rutschman hit into a 6-4 force play, Eloy Jimenez singled in Abreu to cut the lead to 2-1. Tim Anderson flew out to end the inning.
The only other run came in the top of the 4th. After a single by Gonzalez, Jose Altuve booted Josh Rojas’ grounder to put runners on 1st and 2nd. After a flyout, Keston Hiura singled in Gonzalez to put the NL up 3-1.
Offense totally disappeared the rest of the way. After the 2nd inning, the NL allowed only 2 hits and a walk while notching 8 strikeouts. From the 5th inning on, the AL pitchers allowed only 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 4. Final score, NL 3, AL 1.
